web design services
by a fine artist
for fine artists
We artists know that a good gallery is unobtrusive and designed with care to show our work in its best light. Seeing our art online is the next best thing, and, for many people, the closest they will come to seeing it in person.
Our online gallery should be as restrained and thoughtfully designed as a physical gallery. It should enhance the work and allow it to shine. After all, the art, not the gallery, is the star of the show.
Through my work helping artists with their websites, I have found that many available platforms are designed to be all things to all people. Even those created with artists in mind can include more features than most artists need, making them difficult to navigate, time-consuming to maintain, and expensive.
I wanted to create a streamlined option: a website designed specifically for artists, with the essential features you need, an easy way to make updates, and an affordable price.
That is why I developed the Artist Portfolio Template. Take a look at the demo site.
Simple, Focused, and Designed for Artists
The Artist Portfolio Template provides a clean, uncluttered online gallery that gives your artwork the space and attention it deserves.
Your website can include:
Up to four artwork galleries or categories
An About page for your biography, artist statement, CV, exhibition history, and optional photograph
A Contact page with a form that sends inquiries directly to the email address of your choice
An optional home page featuring a large, full-width banner image
Easy to Get Started and Easy to Maintain
As your creative practice evolves and artwork sells, work will move in and out of your website just as it does in a physical gallery. Keeping your site current should feel simple and manageable.
The Artist Portfolio Template uses a straightforward, guided dashboard. You simply:
Answer a few questions
Upload your artwork images
Type or paste in your text
Press Save and view your updated website
You can easily add, remove, and reorder artwork. If you are comfortable posting to Instagram, you should feel comfortable using the Artist Portfolio Template dashboard (take a look at the dashboard).
Unlike website-building platforms such as Squarespace, Wix, and Format, you do not need to design your own pages or work through a large number of tools and settings.
What You’ll Provide
To create your website, you will need:
Images of your artwork
Artwork titles, dimensions, materials, and optional descriptions
Your biography, artist statement, CV, or exhibition history
An optional photograph of yourself
Affordable Pricing
Artist Portfolio Template: $300 one-time payment
Domain: free for 1st year, $10- 20 per year thereafter
Hosting: Approximately $50 per year
Hosting is the service that stores your website files and keeps your site available online—similar to renting a parking space for your website.
Other website-building platforms cost anywhere from $120 to $350 per year, depending on the platform and plan. Although they offer more design tools and features, creating and maintaining a website through them can also be more complicated and time-consuming.
The Artist Portfolio Template is designed to provide exactly what most artists need: a professional website that is easy to set up, easy to maintain, and affordable.
